Aranmula Kannadi AKK10

The Aranmula, a small town in the Indian state of Kerala, is where the metal-alloy mirror known as Aranmula Kannadi (Malayalam) or the Aranmula mirror is created. It is a metal-alloy mirror, or front surface reflection mirror, as opposed to the traditional "silvered" glass mirrors, which removes secondary reflections and aberrations common with rear surface mirrors.

Aranmula Kannadi, a traditional handmade mirror from Aranmula, India, takes around 30 to 45 days to create. Skilled artisans meticulously craft it using a unique alloy of metals, primarily copper and tin. The process involves casting, polishing, and decorating the mirror frame, which is never silvered like conventional mirrors. Instead, it reflects light through a combination of metals, resulting in a distortion-free image. This cultural art form has been passed down through generations and is highly prized for its craftsmanship, beauty, and cultural significance.

India. Crafted with great precision, it features a unique, non-reflective polished surface that imparts a distortion-free reflection. The frame is adorned with intricate designs, making it a cherished decorative and functional item. Considered a symbol of heritage and artistry, the Aranmula Small Kannadi is a prized possession for its cultural significance and exquisite craftsmanship. It reflects the rich tradition and craftsmanship of the region.

The mirror is distinctive because it is not composed of glass. To create the alloy's reflecting surface, the precise metals are combined with copper and tin before being polished for several days in a row. The inner surface of a typical mirror is where the picture is produced. Yet, in Aranmula Kannadi, light can be reflected off the exterior surface (specifically, from polished metal surface), providing a perfect image. Normally, the mirror is stored at ambient temperature, away from sources of heat and dust.

This product is entirely made by hand. There are no machines used in its production.
