Thanjavur Bommai or Tanjore Dolls are roly-poly or bobblehead dancing dolls meticulously made by the skilled artisans of the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The colourful dancing dolls are made of plaster of Paris and wood pulp. Thanjavur Dolls have langer heads and slender bodies and traditionally represent various dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and Manipuri, etc. The dolls are always made in pairs, that is, Raja and Rani. The continuous oscillation of the dolls works on the principle of centre of Gravitational force.
