MRP € 159.01
Pochampally Ikat Sarees are traditional handwoven pure silk or pure cotton sarees. A Set of carefully untangled yarns is tied and dyed, depending upon the predetermined design. The knotted portion remains unaffected while the rest gets dyed. Each yarn is then placed on the loom as per the design layout and woven into a graceful, soft and lustrous saree.
Pochampally Ikat is an exclusive GI of Telangana: Ikat is a Malayalam word which means bind, knot or wind around. Exclusive and enchanting designs are woven into luxurious fabrics using the finest tied and dyed cotton and silk yarns. The exquisite art of weaving pure cotton or silk ikat sarees originated in the Warangal district in Andhra Pradesh. The skills are passed on as heirlooms from generation to generation. The beautifully handcrafted sarees are characterised by the geometrical, diamond-like motifs woven all over. The colour combination and the designs are predetermined and the yarns are tied, dyed and placed on the handloom accordingly. A single Ikat saree might take a minimum of 10 days, whereas a double Ikat saree might take up to 20 days, depending upon the complexity of the design. Pochampally Ikat is an exclusive GI of Telangana and was awarded a GI certification in the year 2004.
